Digital Revolution in Teaching

In the current scenario the whole world is transforming towards the digital revolution at unprecedented rate. A question is raised in everyone’s mind that who exactly will be benefitted from this digital going world? So, are you ready for the digital revolution in teaching or in education?

This transformation is as similar to the transition from apprenticeship to universal schooling which occurred in the 19th century as a result of the industrial revolution. In the apprenticeship era, most of the learning occurred outside of school.

The whole education system is now relying upon the latest technological advancements. Digital revolution in teaching led the system from pedagogy to andragogy i.e. teacher centric to student centric learning. It has given a new shift for teaching in exceptional manner which has its impact on each and every sphere of life. Although the grip of technical advancements has not reached at every individual’s doorstep yet this great momentum of technological development estimate that by 2020, the Internet will connect the human race in its entirety.

Lantern slides, appearing in the late 1870s, were the first forms of new technology used in the classroom in centuries. These slide projectors displayed pictures on glass plates. Since then, more advanced tools like the overhead projector, have had their run in aiding the instruction process. Recently, with the advent of personal computers, the Internet, and devices like tablets and smartphones, teachers have increasingly shifted to presenting their lesson plans in digital formats.

The access to e-books, Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCS), online courses on various applications and websites enable an unlimited number of students from all around the world to enroll in the similar course and share the learning experience, no matter where they are residing. It also saves extra time and expenses of lodging, travelling and large number formalities.

Impacts of digital-revolution on teaching –

  1. A Worldwide Audience

In the era of digital revolution, the whole world is acting as a global village allowing teachers to bring the knowledge beyond the classroom. Students from all around the world can attend and contribute to lessons, creating global conversations through several different points of view on the same topic, with the result of an enriched educational experience.

  • Modular Learning

Educator are independent to design their own modules for effective learning with his competent skills. This provides variety of leaning material for students as per their needs, difficulty levels, roles and fields.

  • Affordable learning and teaching

Unlike in a classroom teaching, an educator can teach unlimited number of students at a time on a single platform viz. you tube or other personal applications and social media platforms and can earn as much as he can. Also, a student can purchase desired course at affordable price and can save video lectures and PDFs for future learning.

  • High-quality Educators with expertise

This digital platform enables teachers too for molding themselves and get upgraded with the latest technological equipment, knowledge and expertise what has been demanded by the learners. None other person can stop you from being succeeded if you have expertise and command unlike in traditional systems where not only talent suffices.

  • Visualized way of learning

Using the technical equipment, it become easier way to depict and describe anything in a realistic manner with live examples, pictures and motion graphics on the projectors and other personal gadgets especially for the school level students. “When you visualize, then you materialize.”

  • Home as a workplace

with the advancement of technology, the trend of working from home is gradually increasing not only in teaching but also in every field of business. Especially for working women it become helpful to teach online from home in leisure.
